Zakharova: Policy of some Western states has triggered increase in terrorism

Moscow, SANA-Russian Foreign Ministry Spokeswoman Maria Zakharova said that the policy of some Western states had triggered an increase in terrorism.

In a press conference on Thursday, Zakharova said that some Western countries are still trying to politicize the humanitarian situation in Syria, affirming that this attitude does not help a political settlement of the crisis.

She pointed out that the meeting of the United Nations Security Council last Monday in New York about the humanitarian situation in Syria had shown that some Western capitals are trying to use the UNSC to achieve the objectives of a politicized propaganda.

She added that the West has leveled baseless accusations against the Russian military which is helping the Syrian Arab Army in the fight against terrorists.

The Russian diplomat said that the Russian side called during the UNSC for lifting the unilateral sanctions imposed on Syria and drew attention to the Russian special initiative related to announcing a humanitarian truce for 48 hours.

On the other hand, Zakharova said that the UN-OPCW report on chemical weapons use in Syria confirms that ISIS terrorist organization have chemical weapons and is using them in Syria and Iraq.

She added that Russia has repeatedly called for conducting an investigation into all the accidents of using chemical weapons in Syria.
