Workshop about situation of the Financing Market for Micro and Small Enterprises kicks off

Damascus, SANA- A workshop entitled “Towards an active and incentive financing framework for the development of micro and small enterprises,” was kicked off Saturday in the presence of Prime Minister Muhammad Al-Jalali.

The workshop is organized by the Central Bank of Syria in cooperation with the Ministry of Economy and foreign trade.

The two-day workshop aims to identify the situation of the small and microfinance market in Syria, and come up with recommendations that contribute to developing its services.

It sheds light on the policies for financing micro and small projects, the measures taken by the government to implement them, the role played by the Central Bank of Syria in facilitating project owners’ access to and obtaining the necessary sources of financing from the banking sector, and the problems facing the provision of financing services to the target groups.’

In his speech during the opening of the workshop, al-Jalali stressed the government’s commitment to the development of micro and small enterprises, as they constitute an essential tributary in addition to other tributaries in the development of the national economy.

Premier al Jalali asserted that Syria is a country that enjoys very great investment advantages and diversity that is perhaps unparalleled in the region, articulating that we have agriculture and industry, and we have a skilled and experienced workforce

He said: “The Syrians arrived one day, through the Phoenicians, to the entire world, with their industry, shipbuilding, and the manufacture of specialized products, and therefore today we have the right to return to use the capabilities available in our country through cooperation between all of us to revive again.”

The Prime Minister concluded his speech by saying: “I hope that this workshop will achieve its desired goals.”

During the workshop Minister of Economy and Foreign Trade Dr. Mohammad Rabie Qalaaji , stressed the need to focus on creating the appropriate environment for the growth of micro, small and medium enterprises, based on their importance in the process of economic and social development in all countries in general, and their importance in the Syrian case in particular, in particular. In light of the effects of the war and its repercussions on the economic reality.
