Syria, China discuss ways to develop cooperation in water sector

Damascus, SANA- Minister of Water Resources, Eng. Moataz Qattan, discussed Sunday with Chinese Ambassador in Damascus, Shi Hongwei, ways to enhance and develop cooperation between the two countries in the water sector.

Minister Qattan highlighted the great importance of the sectors supervised by the Ministry of Water Resources, namely drinking water, irrigation and sanitation, indicating to their close connection to economic, environmental and social aspects.

Qattan shed light on the ministry’s efforts to rehabilitate the infrastructure destroyed by terrorism, referring to the difficulties associated with this work, especially in light of the unilateral coercive measures imposed on the Syrian people.

The Minister also stressed the need to develop the water sector to achieve water and food security in light of the climate changes facing the countries of the region.

In turn, Ambassador Hongwei tackled the support provided by China for the Syrian people in the process of rehabilitating the infrastructure, in addition to the cooperation in the field of training and building expertise.

He also touched on some of the projects that have been completed in China in the water sector to address the challenges of water scarcity and climate change.
