Russian Foreign Ministry: ISSG will meet on May 17

Moscow, SANA-A source at the Russian Foreign Ministry said Thursday that the International Syria Support Group (ISSG) is planned to meet on May 17 to discuss the developments related to the political settlement of the crisis in Syria.

In a statement to the Russian RIA Novosti News Agency, the source said that the fourth round of the intra-Syrian talks in Geneva would most likely start after the ISSG ministerial meeting.

For his part, Iranian Assistant Foreign Minister for Arab and African Affairs Hossein Amir-Abdullahian announced that the ISSG will meet on May 17 and 18 but this date is not final.

During an interview with Sputnik News Agency, Abdullahian said that the ISSG should not make decisions on behalf of the Syrian people but has to help Syrians make decisions themselves.

He stressed that Iran, which is an ISSG member, will support any activities that will help in finding a political solution to the crisis in Syria.
