Putin and el-Sisi stress the need for working towards a political solution for crisis in Syria

Cairo, SANA – Russian President Vladimir Putin and Egyptian President Abdel Fattah el-Sisi stressed the need to increase international efforts to combat terrorism and to work towards a political solution for the crisis in Syria.

In a joint press conference on Tuesday, el-Sisi said that the two sides agreed that they stand together in the face of terrorism which poses a threat to the entire world, and that they affirmed the need to unite international efforts to combat terrorism comprehensively in a manner not limited to security operations, but also encompasses dealing with the causes of terrorism.

El-Sisi also voiced satisfaction over the ongoing Russian-Egyptian coordination on providing a suitable environment for Syrian sides to meet and discuss matters in order to reach agreements that would form the basis for a political solution based on the Geneva communiqué.

In turn, Putin said that he and el-Sisi discussed the situation in the regional and some international issues, agreeing to increase counterterrorism efforts and giving significant attention to issues related to resolving the crisis in Syria.

The Russian President said he informed el-Sisi about the results of the recent inter-Syrian meeting held in Moscow, adding that Russia has high hopes for holding a second meeting like it.

The two Presidents also discussed issues related to Palestine, Libya, Yemen, and Russian-Egyptian relations in the fields of politics, economy, military cooperation, and energy.
