De Mistura: Truce regime paves the way towards political process to resolve crisis in Syria

Geneva, SANA – UN Special Envoy for Syria Staffan de Mistura said that the truce regime paves the way towards a political process to resolve the crisis in Syria.

At a press conference in Geneva on Tuesday, de Mistura said that the truce regime will be evaluated by Moscow and Washington, noting that reports from Syria show that breaches took place after the truce came into effect on Monday evening.

He stressed the need to declare the contents of the relief trucks that will enter some areas in Aleppo, calling for facilitating the delivery of aid to Aleppo’s eastern and western neighborhoods as per the Russian-US agreement.

The envoy also underlined the importance of establishing the Russian-American joint center and its role in observing the truce and pushing forward with the military and political operations at once, adding that a meeting for the International Syrian Support Group could be held on the ministerial level before a Security Council meeting on September 21st.
