Syrian-Chinese talks to enhance joint investments

Damascus, SANA- Deputy Director General of the Syrian Investment Agency (SIA) Inas al-Omawi discussed with China’s Ambassador in Damascus Wang Kejian means of enhancing investment cooperation and trade exchange between Syria and China to serve the common interests of the two countries especially during the reconstruction phase.

During the meeting which was held at the Agency’s headquarters in Damascus, Al-Omawi reviewed some of the investment opportunities available in Syria, the role of the Agency in the economic development process, and the preparations for agreements and investment promotion, noting that the crisis that Syria witnesses has affected different sectors of cooperation between Syria and China.

Al-Omawi pointed out the advantages of the new electronic application (Invest through Your Mobile) launched by the Agency in order to make it easier for investors and to encourage investment in Syria.

In turn, the Chinese ambassador emphasized that the Chinese companies are interested in enhancing cooperation with Syria in the future particularly in reconstruction and other fields.

China’s Ambassador pointed out that the areas of cooperation between the two countries are various including infrastructure, renewable and conventional energy, nuclear and space technology, industry, technology and oil exchange, but they are struggling under the US and European unfair sanctions imposed on Syria, adding that any future cooperation and new projects should be planned and implemented as soon as appropriate conditions are available.
