Syrian Tourism Day kicks off in Madrid

Madrid, SANA-Director of the Tourism Ministry’s Tourist Promotion and Marketing Bassam Barsik said the activities of the 3rd Syrian Tourism Day around the World kicked off Wednesday in Spain’s capital, Madrid.

The event, he said, is organized in cooperation between Ministry of Tourism and Friends of Maaloula society at the Syrian Cultural Center in Madrid.

In a statement to SANA, Barsik said the opening ceremony shed light on the pillage and vandalism perpetrated by terrorists against archeological sites in Syria which, he said, “belong to humanity at large, not only Syria.”

A photo exhibition titled “Syria’s Archeological Treasures…Humanity’s Heritage” showcased photos of Syrian heritage sites before and after vandalism acts by terrorists. 5 promotional films about Syria were also screened.

Chairman of Maaloula Friends Society in Madrid Yossef Mes’ed underscored the significance of the activity in bringing the Syrian civilization and heritage into limelight for the world to recognize, emphasizing the necessity that the Syrian expats play a role in making what is happening back home known to the world.

Director of the Syrian Cultural Center in Madrid Aktham Abdul-Hamid pointed to attemptsby terrorists to obliterate the Syrian civilization. “And hence comes,” he said, “the importance of this activity which makes it possible to get across a message about the importance of preserving this human heritage,” he added.

The Syrian Tourism Day in Madrid last till July 31.
