Damascus, SANA- Aleppo laurel soap industry was listed on UNESCO Intangible Cultural Heritage of Humanity and this is in honor of the traditional art of soap makers in Aleppo over history, and an embodiment of Aleppo people’s resilience, who have faced war, economic sanctions, and the devastating effects of terrorism.
This announcement came during the 19th session of Intergovernmental Committee for Safeguarding of Intangible Cultural Heritage, held in Paraguay and which highlighted the importance of making Aleppo laurel soap, dates back more than 4,000 years.
Aleppo’s people have preserved their national identity, through this craft, especially as Aleppo, Syria and the region as a whole face a difficult reality of war, displacement and unjust economic sanctions.
“This step comes at a critical stage that Aleppo comes through and which continues to face new and complex challenges”, member of the Board of Syria Trust for Development, Fares Kallas, said, adding that it is an evidence of Aleppo’s determination to protect its identity.
