Abdullahian: Iran continues supporting Syria against terrorism

Moscow, SANA -Iranian Assistant Foreign Minister for the Arab and African affairs Hussein Amir Abdullahian reiterated that Iran will continue to support Syria in combating terrorism and will not allow the country to be transformed into “another Libya”.

Abdullahian said in a press conference following talks with Special representative of the Russian President, Deputy Foreign Minister Michael Bogdanov Monday that Iran’s and Russia’s stances regarding counterterrorism are identical and their support to Syria and Iraq in confronting the “Islamic State in Iraq and Syria” (ISIS) and other terrorist organizations.

He noted that talks with Bogdanov paid special attention to the situation in Syria.

Abdullahian stressed that Tehran and Moscow have conviction that the Syrian people are the side to determine the future of the country and priority is with the “current regime” not the terrorists.

He condemned the double standards policy of the U.S. Administration and its allies, pointing out that the US-claims of being against terrorism verbally are actually in support to ISIS terrorist organization helping it to move and expand easily in new areas in Syria and Iraq.
The Iranian official added that Turkey could play a more effective role in boosting stability and peace in the region.
