Abdullahian, Lavrov discuss bilateral relations in light of regional situation

Moscow, SANA- Iranian Foreign Minister Hossein Amir Abdullahian stressed that Iran condemns the sanctions imposed against Russia.

Abdullahian’s remarks came during a meeting with his Russian counterpart Sergey Lavrov in Moscow on Tuesday.

The Iranian diplomat said that any unilateral sanctions are wrong, stressing that the two sides concentrate on finding a political solution to the Ukraine issue.

He added that the prospects for developing the Iranian-Russian relations with Russia are positive, noting that “there are many economic projects.”

Abdullahian expressed his country’s hope that a good agreement on the Iranian nuclear file would soon be announced.

In turn, Lavrov said that Russia supports accelerating reaching an agreement on the Iranian nuclear file and is waiting the US to return to the agreement and lift sanctions on Tehran.

On the situation in Ukraine, Lavrov thanked the Iranian side for its balanced stance and Russia’s support regarding its security, which the NATO and European countries are attempting to destabilize.

“Russia will increase its cooperation with Iran even under the illegitimate sanctions,” Lavrov said.

With regard to Syria, Lavrov pointed out that the talks with his Iranian counterpart included the situation in Syria, as both sides expressed a common desire to coordinate measures to improve the economic and humanitarian conditions in it.
