Terrorists commit horrific massacre in Jisr al-Shughour, leaving over 30 civilians dead

Idleb, SANA – Dozens of civilians were killed at dawn Sunday in a new appalling terrorist massacre committed in Jisr al-Shughour city in the countryside of the northern Idleb province.

A military source estimated the number of people who were killed at over 30, saying the majority of those were children and women.

Hiding inside their homes in hope they could escape the terror rampage, the locals were not spared the atrocious acts of the terrorists, who have flowed in droves coming from the Turkish border.

The killings, which took place in a square in the middle of Jisr al-Shughour city, were carried out in retaliation against the locals for their support to the army units fighting back the terrorist groups in the city.

Local sources in the city said the terrorists vandalized and destroyed their homes and properties as well as the state institutions and infrastructure in the city after carrying out large-scale pillage of the area.

This new massacre brings to minds the similarly heart-wrenching massacre which terrorists committed in Jisr al-Shughour city in June 2011 in which 120 civilians were killed.

Saturday night, units of the army and armed forces carried out raids against a number of military posts which terrorists groups infiltrated around the city and in the northwestern countryside of Hama.

Earlier Saturday, the army had redeployed units in the surroundings of Jisr al-Shughour to try to avoid any civilian casualties and fortified its defensive positions in the city’s vicinity, while it launched concentrated strikes against groups of terrorists and their supply routes in the city, killing and injuring scores of terrorists and destroying their
weapons and equipment.

The army also destroyed a convoy of terrorists’ vehicles coming across the Turkish border at al-Qeniyeh-al-Janoudiyeh axis in the countryside of the province.
