Syria, Iraq discuss implementation of electricity connection agreement

Damascus, SANA-Electricity Minister Mohammad Zuhair Kharboutli discussed on Wednesday with his Iraqi counterpart Qasim Mohammad al-Fahadawi the completion of the electricity connection agreement signed on November between Syria, Iraq and Iran.

The two sides also discussed benefiting from the industrial and human resources in the reconstruction phase.

During a meeting held at Electricity Ministry’s building, Kharboutli said that the meeting aims at completion of the implementation of the project of electrical connection between Syria and Iraq, which supports the electrical system between the two countries and contributes to solving the electricity issue and enhancing its stability.

In turn, al-Fahadawi pointed out that Syria needs electricity power to increase production and implement economic projects while Iraq has a large surplus of electricity which will be reflected in the case of investment positively on the two countries.

He noted that a plan was developed in order to follow-up the implementation of the project, adding that the Iraqi side will provide all the necessary support for implementation of this project

On Tuesday, al-Fahadawi arrived in Damascus accompanied by a technical delegation to complete the project of electric power connection between Syria and Iraq and set a timetable for the implementation and re-operation of high tension power lines of 400 kV and 230 kV, which will exchange electricity between the two countries.
