World champion weightlifter Naumova supports Syrian people against terrorism

Moscow, SANA – World champion weightlifter Maryana Naumova unveiled a wish to visit Syria to familiarize herself with what is taking place in the country through first-hand experience.

Speaking to SANA correspondent in Moscow, the 15-year-old Russian weightlifter said she is planning to visit Syria to get acquainted with the country and be able to directly communicate with its people, expressing appreciation of the Syrians’ struggle and steadfastness in the face of terrorism.

“I intend to visit Syria to support its children at schools and raise their awareness of the importance of sport and its role as far as health and life in general are concerned,” said Naumova.

She added that she cannot wait to go on a trip to Syria, through which she will come to garner facts and information about the country, a thing that would enable her to bring to light the truth about the events taking place there, according to the weightlifter.

She voiced hope that Syria will regain the state of security and peace it had enjoyed before the terrorist war that has ravaged it and overcome its ordeal in the near future.

While speaking to the reporter, Naumova seemed not unfamiliar with the deep historical ties binding her country and Syria, the kinds of ties she heard a lot about from her grandfather, whom she said served in the missile air defense forces.

“I hereby stress my solidarity with the Syrian people and my full support for them,” said Naumova, who has been world champion among teenage girls under 15 three times.

Naumova’s intended visit to Syria is being planned between the Syrian Embassy in Moscow and the Foreign Ministry and the General Sports Federation back home, according to Ambassador Riyad Haddad who spoke to SANA correspondent.
