Abbas to Belgian MPS: Syria will go ahead with its war against terrorism

Damascus, SANA – Speaker of the People’s Assembly Hadiyeh Abbas stressed Syria’s continued efforts to combat terrorism, highly appreciating the stances of countries which stand by Syria and realize the threats posed by terrorism.

Abbas made her remarks on Sunday during a meeting with a Belgian parliamentary delegation, headed by Filip Dewinter .

She underlined the importance of cooperation among all countries to eradicate terrorism which began to spread across the world, indicating to the key role of European parliamentarians as representatives of their people and their influence on the policies of their governments to reconsider the wrong stances adopted by some states towards Syria and lift the unjust economic blockade imposed on the Syrian people.

Abbas reviewed the latest political and field developments in Syria’s war on terrorism, especially the liberation of Aleppo city from terrorist organizations which destroyed the city and used its people as human shields.

She extended gratitude to all friendly countries, particularly Russia, Iran and the Lebanese Resistance, for their support to the steadfastness of Syria’s army and people to defeat terrorism.

Abbas noted that the outcome of the Astana talks constitutes a basis for dialogue among all Syrian sides and the international counterterrorism efforts, stressing that intra-Syrian dialogue is the best way to solve the crisis in Syria and the Syrian people are the only to decide the destiny of their country.

In turn, members of the Belgian delegation stated that the misleading media campaign against Syria still continues, highlighting the need for unifying international efforts and standing by Syria to completely eliminate terrorism.

They affirmed their readiness to convey to the Belgian Parliament and international organizations the reality of what is taking place in Syria and what they saw and heard from Syrian citizens in Aleppo as well as the role of Syrian leadership and army in combating terrorism.

Hassoun: Syria is a secular, democratic state 

In this regard, Syria’s grand Mufti, Sheikh Ahmad Badreddin Hassoun said that Syria is going ahead with the way of victory and defeating terrorism.

Meeting Dewinter and the accompanying delegation, Hasson called on the European governments to stand by Syria and support it in the war against terrorism, adding “Syria was and still is a secular and democratic state.”

For his part, Dewinter affirmed that the view of the Europeans towards events in Syria has changed, particularly after terrorism has struck a number of their countries.
