Homs, SANA – A Hungarian archeology mission, in cooperation with Syrian archeologists, started restoration works at Krak des Chevaliers Castle in the western countryside of Homs province.
The mission is currently involved in conducting studies and drawing up plans and outlines to restore and fix the parts of the castle that were damaged due to the acts of the terrorist organizations.
In a statement to SANA, the director of the Castle Affairs Department Naima Mhartim said the mission includes 14 experts, who have embarked on studying and assessing the damage caused to the church, the mosque, the Knights Hall and the yard.
She pointed out that the mission is using advanced techniques and devices and that will contribute to repairing the damage, adding that the castle is receiving visitors daily.
The Krak des Chevaliers Castle is located around 60 km west of Homs city in the Syrian coast mountain ranges. It is considered one of the most significant historical monuments in Syria and one of the most important medieval castles due to its historical and architectural qualities. It was listed as a World Heritage Site by the UNESCO in 2006.
