Six new breaches of cessation of hostilities, 72-hour truce in Eastern Ghouta and Daraya

Lattakia, SANA – Terrorist groups breached the cessation of hostilities agreement in Syria six times in the past 24 hours, raising the total number of beaches to 591 since the agreement came into effect on 27 February 2016, the Russian Coordination Center said.

The center, based in Hmeimim airbase, added in a statement on Tuesday that six breaches were observed, 5 in Damascus countryside where the so-called Jaish al-Islam targeted military positions with mortar rounds, and one in Lattakia countryside where Karamil town was targeted with rocket launchers by Jaish al-Islam.

In a relevant context, the Russian center announced that truce has been agreed in Eastern Ghouta and Daraya as of 12:00 p.m. May 24 and will last for 72 hours.

On the other hand, the total number of towns that joined the cessation of hostilities agreement has reached 117, while the number of armed groups which announced commitment to the agreement remained 59.

The cessation of hostilities agreement does not include Jabhat al-Nusra, ISIS and other groups listed by the UN as terrorist organizations.

The center also pointed out that terrorists of Jabhat al-Nusra continued attacks against military positions in Aleppo and targeted neighborhoods of al-Sheikh Maqsoud, al-Khalediyeh and Salah Eddin as well as Handarat refugee camp with mortar rounds.

Jabhat al-Nusra terrorists also targeted the two towns of Hakour al-Tahtani and Kinsabba in the northern countryside of Lattakia, and Marj al-Sultan town in Damascus countryside, the Russian center said, adding that the Syrian army forced ISIS terrorists to further retreat in the eastern countryside of Homs.
