Damascus, SANA – The Syrian Arab News Agency (SANA) won the award of the best sports press report and the special award for satirical sports journalism in the Golden Pen contest, the results of which were announced on Wednesday.
Colleague Joumaa al-Jasem won first place in the competition of the press report for his report titled “The Russian Dream 2018 is approaching” which focused on the prospects of the Syrian football team for reaching the World Cup finals for the first time in history.
Meanwhile, colleague Mohammad al- Khater won the special award for satirical sports journalism for his report “After beating Brazil in the finals, the Syrian football team wins the world Cup.”
More than 55 news items were nominated for the contest, and the winners were picked by a jury consisting of Managing Editor of al-Thawra newspaper Mustafa al-Mikdad, head of Radio and Television Department in the Faculty of Information at Damascus University Arabi al-Masri, and sports expert Gabriel al-Shami.
