De Mistura briefs UNSC on Intra-Syrian dialogue.. Another round or two to be held before July

Geneva, SANA_ The UN Secretary General’s Special Envoy for Syria Staffan de Mistura briefed the Security Council on the latest developments of the Syrian dialogue after its third round was concluded in Geneva Wednesday.

De Mistura told reporters in Geneva after the briefing that he informed the Security Council on the latest developments of the Syrian dialogue which had a positive encouragement particularly what is related to the Cessation of Hostilities.

The Syrian Arab Republic delegation engaged in a responsible and objective manner in every discussion that could serve Syria and its people, answering all the questions and inquiries posed by the UN team, all of which dealt with important issues, head of the delegation Bashar Jaafari said Tuesday.

The Special envoy pointed out that there are joint points in the dialogue over supervision of transitional governance that includes members of the government, opposition and independents on setting a new constitution, making it clear that any new governance, agreed upon in the Syrian dialogue, would be facilitated by the UN on mutual understanding basis.

De Mistura said that woman should enjoy equal rights and equal representation in all establishments.

De Mistura indicated that another or two rounds of dialogue will be held before July which is the date we already set before moving to evaluation process, adding that there is a targeted date for the next round which is next May.

The Special envoy said he had asked for re-launching an initiative on the level of the US and Russia connected directly to the cessation of hostilities which started well and should be succeeded at the end, expressing hope that this should be achieved before announcing the date of the next round of dialogue.

On date of the next meeting of International Syria Support Group (ISSG), de Mistura said it should meet in the near future, but its date is up to the ministerial council.
