Damascus, SANA- Water Resources Minister Kamal al-Sheikha discussed on Wednesday with resident representative of Food and Agriculture Organization (FAO) in Syria Eriko Hibi means to enhance cooperation between the two sides, mainly in the field of rehabilitating the irrigation networks and affected sewage treatment plants.
Al-Sheikha affirmed the importance of enhancing cooperation with FAO and setting up a plan that is not limited to urgent humanitarian assistance only, but also includes a strategy for rebuilding the infrastructure and facilities for all institutions.
He said that most of sewage treatment plants are off duty due to terrorist attacks, adding that rehabilitating these plants is a priority as it will contribute to alleviate water pollution.
In turn, Hibi pointed out that the supporting food-producing infrastructure is more important than offering food, adding that FAO is working on providing urgent humanitarian aid and devising a work strategy to rehabilitate the infrastructure during 2016 and 2017.
