Hama, SANA – Talks were held on Tuesday at Hama Governorate with Anthony Lake, the Executive Director of the United Nations Children’s Fund (UNICEF), and the accompanying delegation to discuss mechanisms to guarantee utmost coordination in implementing current humanitarian projects to improve the locals’ living conditions, mainly in the most affected areas.
Deputy Head of Hama Council’s Executive Office Khaled al-Khodr hoped that the UNICEF start more sustainable and profitable projects and not limit its work to urgent projects, highlighting the importance of setting up projects related to water and sewerage networks and finding sanitary landfills.
He raised the possibility of opening a UNICEF office in Hama province to cover the humanitarian needs.
Lake, for his part, said his visit aims at working to improve the situation of the drinking water and education sectors in the province, in addition to finding financial resources to cover future projects.
He noted that the UNICEF is seriously studying the request for it to open an office in the province.
For her part, the UNICEF Resident Representative in Syria Hana Singer stressed the organization’s commitment to all agreements with the authorities concerned in Hama and its readiness to develop prospects of cooperation, especially in relation to reaching the targeted spectra of people, mainly children.
Following the meeting, Lake and the accompanying delegation visited the water desalination plant in al-Salmiyeh area and inspected the work there and the most needed equipment to improve its performance.
