Turkish regime says it will withdraw its troops from northern Iraq

Ankara, SANA- Turkish regime announced on Saturday that it will continue pulling its forces out of Iraq, while Iraqi Foreign Minister Ibrahim al-Jaafari called for a Security Council (UNSC) resolution denouncing the Turkish violation of Iraqi territories.

Turkey sent at least 150 troops into northern Iraq earlier this month saying they were to protect military trainers, but the Iraqi government said the latest move had been carried out without consultation and violated national sovereignty and international law.

Iraq addressed the UNSC on December 11 in a complain about the deployment of Turkish troops in the northern side of the country, calling on UNSC to take necessary measures regarding the Turkish forces and to issue directives to Turkey to immediately withdraw its troops to the internationally recognised borders between the two countries.

Turkish foreign ministry said in the statement that “Turkey, in recognition of the Iraqi concerns, is continuing to move military forces from Nineveh province” .

This step comes a day after US President Barack Obama urged President of Turkish regime Erdogan to withdraw Turkish forces from Irraq and respect its svereignty.
