Daraa Governor and WHO discuss means of enhancing cooperation to support health programs and services

Daraa, SANA- Daraa Governor Mohammad Khaled al-Hannous discussed with Resident Representative of the World Health Organization (WHO) in Syria Elizabeth Hoff means of cooperation to support health programs and services provided to the locals and the displaced people who stay in the province.

Daraa Governor emphasized during the meeting that was held at the governorate’ headquarter the need to support locals with health and relief services, improving these services in health facilities and relief centers in cooperation with international organizations, continuing rehabilitation of health facilities and emergency system, establishing new health departments and sections and providing the facilities with the necessary medicine and medical equipment.

Al-Hannous added that during the current year the international organizations provided Daraa hospital with medicine, two mobile clinics for makeshifts centers and some necessary medical equipment.

Al-Hannous also pointed out the efforts made by Daraa Governorate to rehabilitate what had been destroyed by terrorists and implementation of projects to supply residents of the city with water, stressing that the health situation in the province is good despite difficulties and that the relief situation has improved after the security situation returned and the return of some displaced people to their areas, the matter that led to a decrease in numbers of makeshift centers from 214 centers to 97 and the time for granting aid packages from three to two months.

“The number of hospitals in the Daraa province are seven, two of them are in full readiness and another two are partly working whereas the rest are out of service due to terrorism,” al—Hannous said.

He adding that there are 99 health centers, including 26 centers out of service and five private hospitals, three clinics, four medical centers for families, one of them is working, 39 ambulances which were completely damaged, five of which have been rehabilitated,” stressing the need to complete Kherbet Ghazaleh water dragging project and supplying it with tanks to transport water, medical equipment, medicine, and rehabilitation for some departments at hospitals.

In turn, Hoff said in a statement that the aim of the visit to Daraa is to inspect the health and relief situation in the province and the needs in the field of medical equipment and spare parts.

Hoff added that the organization has provided the province with aid and is going to send new aid in the light of the increase in services provided to Daraa hospital and clinics.

She also asked for a report about the situation of medical equipment to rehabilitate some of them and provide some new needed ones.
