Higher Education, UNFPA sign agreement for reproductive health programs

Damascus, SANA – The Higher Education Ministry and the United Nations Population Fund (UNFPA) on Monday signed a cooperation agreement for implementing reproductive health programs at the University Obstetrics Hospital in Damascus and the Obstetrics Hospital in Aleppo, with a total budget of SYP 65.26 million.

Meeting UNFPA representative in Syria Layla Bakr, Higher Education Minister Malek Ali stressed the importance of cooperation between the two sides to support university hospitals’ efforts to provide health services to citizens, particularly in the field of increasing health services for women, mothers, and special surgical procedures.

For her part, Bakr lauded the level of services available at the university hospitals she visited, specifically the University Obstetrics Hospital in Damascus.

The programs in question will help provide services to expecting mothers via providing them with special coupons, in addition to boosting the capabilities of the obstetrics hospitals and improve skills of workers at them.

The project involves carrying out regular visits and collecting data, in addition to carrying out studies on the conduct of workers in the reproductive health sector and the quality of the service packages provided to patients.
