Damascus, SANA- Higher Education Minister Mohammad Amer al-Mardini discussed on Monday with Massimo Diana, the representative of the United Nations Population Fund (UNFPA) in Syria, prospects of cooperation in the programs aimed at youths and developing their skills and at providing psychosocial and social support and health care for women.
Al-Mardini affirmed the importance of cooperation with UNFPA in the training sector in higher education institutions, reviewing the existing joint programs between the two sides.
The minister pointed out that university hospitals continue to provide health and education services despite the unjust blockade and sanctions imposed on Syria.
For his part, Diana reviewed the most important programs and activities of UNFPA in Syria, expressing his willingness to boost cooperation with the Higher Education Ministry, particularly in developing the expertise and qualifications of academic staff in universities and in providing services in the field of reproductive health care in university hospitals.
He also noted that the United Nations and the Syrian government are currently preparing a number of development programs and humanitarian response plans for upcoming years which aim at alleviating the effects of current crisis, particularly on youths.
