New York, SANA-Syria’s permanent envoy to the UN, Dr. Bashar al-Jaafari said on Wednesday that terrorism and unilateral, coercive measures imposed on the Syrian people are the main reasons behind the paralysis in the economic life and destruction of infrastructure and the departure of large numbers of Syrians from their country.
“The tragedy of the Syrians is a big one, but, unfortunately, the UN Security Council didn’t touch the real reasons behind the departure of different spectrum of the Syrian people from their country, mainly, terrorism and the unilateral economic sanctions which paralyzed the economic life, stopped job opportunities and increased unemployment,” al-Jaafari said at a UN Security Council session on the state in the Middle East to discuss UN Secretary General report about implementing resolutions 2139, 2165 and 2191 regarding the humanitarian situation in Syria.
He referred to armed terrorist groups, like the so-called “Jaish al-Fatah” in northern Syria, financed by Turkey and Qatar, and “Jaish al-Islam” in Damascus suburbs, in addition to other terrorist organizations which launch thousands of shells everyday on the Syrian people and kill hundreds of innocents.
Al-Jaafari expressed regret that the UN Secretary General didn’t name, in his report, the said groups as terrorist groups, but he called them “armed groups from other countries”, describing it as “neutral expression” which doesn’t accord with the rules of Security Council resolutions related to combating terrorism.
He added that the third reason behind the humanitarian crisis in Syria is the flow of this huge number of terrorists and mercenaries from all over the world, saying that these terrorists come from 100 member states, estimating their numbers with tens of thousands which destroy the Syrian and Iraq ruins, kill and capture women and sell oil and gas through Turkish mediators.
Al-Jaafari affirmed that he had sent a group of letters to President of Security Council; these letters were the response of the Syrian government to the 19th report of UN Chief on implementing resolutions No. 2139, 2165 and 2191 in addition to other letters about the numbers of victims who died in Damascus and Aleppo due to the shells launched by “the armed groups from other countries” as mentioned in the UN Chief’s report.
“The Syrian government is a legitimate government whose national duty is to protect its citizens, apply constitution and combat terrorism, but it can’t do so alone, it needs your support and understanding of the volume of the terrorism danger in Syria and Iraq,” al-Jaafari said.
He added “we don’t want our people to migrate and leave the country, we want them back, but you have to stop terrorism, stop its support, the economic embargo and stop the Saudi, Turkish, Qatari and Jordanian interference in Syria’s domestic affairs.”
