Lattakia, SANA- Lattakia Governor Ibrahim Khudir al-Salem on Wednesday discussed with Resident Representative of the World Health Organization (WHO) in Syria Elizabeth Hoff the issue of selecting a site to be adopted by the organization as the headquarters of its office and a drug store in the province.
Providing the required cars for transporting medical wastes by the WHO and ensuring some medicines needed by health bodies at the province, particularly the insulin and the medicines of cancer were also discussed in the meeting.
Hoff said that a real estate in al-Bassa area in Lattakia had been chosen as permanent headquarters of the office of WHO team in the province.
She stressed that the next step will be contacting WHO regional office in Cairo and discussing the financial issues, adding that the office will be officially opened in the beginning of October.
She hailed the facilitations provided by the Syrian Government to open the office which will facilitate importing medicines directly to Syria and distributing them immediately.
She expressed regret on the death of a number of civilians in the latest terrorist attacks on Lattakia two days ago.
Regarding the medical wastes, Hoff said that WHO will bring two cars to transport them after ensuring the required budget, in addition to providing a number of waste containers and two x-ray machines, one of them for Lattakia and the other for Aleppo.
She added that USD 3 million have been secured for covering cancer medicines, taking into consideration that the other medicines will be provided consecutively as soon as possible.
