Russia’s Tartous base will continue its missions, Russian Navy source stresses

Moscow, SANA – The Russian Naval General Staff said Thursday that the Material-Technical Support Point for the Russian Navy in Tartous city will continue to carry out the tasks in the fulfillment of its missions regardless of the developments in Syria.

In a press statement in Petersburg city, a source at the Russian Naval General Staff affirmed that Russia is not planning to abandon its naval facility in Tartous whatever the developments in Syria.

The source noted that repairing this support point is not important at this time, clarifying that any repair process will not be carried out until the security and political situation in Syria and the region is stable once again.

In earlier statements, the Russian Navy said any repairs and reconstruction works at its Tartous base cannot be done without coordination with the Syrian side.
