Damascus, SANA- Activities of the workshop “Damascus University Technical Institutes’ Situation” and means of developing them” was inaugurated on Sunday at the Technical Institute of Mechanical and Electrical Engineering in Damascus.
The workshop, which was opened by Prime Minister Wael al-Halaqi and organized in cooperation between Damascus University and the Supreme Council for technical education, aims at evaluating the situation of the technical institutes and discussing means of developing their administrative and scientific competencies.
In a speech during the opening of the workshop, al-Halaqi said President Bashar al-Assad and the government are highly interested in the technical education sector for its important role in the reconstruction process, considering the technical education not only a scientific degree but also a privilege for entering the labor market.
The Premier called for linking the educational institutions to the labor market and society, stressing the role of graduates in the reconstruction programs.
He clarified that the reconstruction in its broad sense, whether in infrastructure, economy or services, is one of the most important issues at this stage.
Proceeding from the principle of priorities in the reconstruction process, the Reconstruction Committee continues to execute the reconstruction emergency plan for 2015 which is worth SYP 18,840 billion, noting that the rebuilding areas to which the Army restored security and stability will start soon.
The Prime Minister invited the Syrian businessmen inside and outside the country to participate in the reconstruction process, adding that the Syrians’ war against terrorism, now in its 5th year, is marked by more steadfastness and sacrifices on the part of the Syrian army and people.
The government continues to provide free social and humanitarian services and to compensate the people affected by the crisis.
For his part, Minister of Higher Education Mohammad Amer al-Mardini stressed the importance of developing the performance of technical institutions.
In turn, Rector of Damascus University Mohammad Hassan al-Kurdi highlighted the important role of technical institutions in providing the necessary technical expertise and preparing technicians in different specializations.
Participants in the two- day workshop are due to discuss issues related to status of the technical education and its relation with society and labor market needs.
