Archbishop Hanna: Terrorist attacks on Yarmouk Camp are shame on humanity

Occupied Jerusalem, SANA – Greek Orthodox Archbishop of Sebastia Atallah Hanna addressed Saturday a solidarity letter to the residents of Yarmouk Camp neighborhood who have been under attack by terrorist groups for the past days.

“This is a shame on humanity,” Hanna said, appealing to people with conscience everywhere in the world to work to solve the crisis in Yarmouk Camp.

Last week, hundreds of terrorists from the Islamic State in Iraq and Syria (ISIS), in cahoots with others from Jabhat al-Nusra, entered the neighborhood, which has been besieged by terrorist groups since 2012.

Thenceforth, the residents, who include Palestinian refugees and Syrian citizens, have come under repeated attacks at the terrorists’ hands almost every time humanitarian aid was distributed in the neighborhood with the aim to starve the inhabitants.

The Archbishop dismissed what is happening in Yarmouk Camp as part of the imperialist plan targeting Syria that is aimed at weakening and fragmenting it.

He said Syria deserves that we be faithful to it and return its favor with it having embraced the Palestinian issue and welcomed the Palestinian refugees since the start of the Israeli occupation in 1948.

Archbishop noted that the people of Yarmouk Camp, as is the case of people in other Palestinian refugee camps in Syria, have been targeted in the framework of hostile plans to liquidate the Palestine Cause and the Palestinian refugees ‘right to return home.
