London – SANA – The British Newspaper “The Guardian” revealed that the former head of the Mossad, Israel’s foreign intelligence agency, Yossi Cohen, “threatened” chief prosecutor of the international criminal court, Fatou Bensouda, in a series of secret meetings in which he tried to pressure her into abandoning a war crimes inquiry.
The newspaper quoted several sources as saying that Cohen, who was one of the closest allies of Israeli Prime Minister, Benjamin Netanyahu, personally led the Mossad’s participation in a campaign that lasted nearly a decade to undermine the court, and his activities were acknowledged at a high level in this regard.
The sources asserted that Bensouda informed a small group of senior ICC officials about Cohen’s attempts to influence her on several occasions not to proceed with a criminal investigation before the International Court.
The sources indicated that the Mossad obtained copies of the secret recordings of Bensouda’s husband, and then Israeli officials tried to use these materials to defame the Prosecutor.
The Israeli entity continues its flagrant violations of international laws and conventions, along with impunity, relying on full support from the West, led by the United States.
