Delegation from Iraq visits Syria to boost judicial cooperation

Damascus, SANA- Judicial delegation headed by President of the Supreme Judicial Council in Iraq Judge Dr. Faeq Zaidan have arrived Syria on a two-day visit for boosting the legal and judicial cooperation.

The Minister of Justice Ahmad al-Sayyed and a number of judges received the delegation upon their arrival at Damascus International Airport.

Judge Zaidan stated to journalists that this visit is of a great significance not only to promote the bilateral cooperation in the legal sphere but also to express solidarity with the Syrian leadership and its people.

Furthermore, the visit agenda includes holding judicial talks with judges in Syria and discussing the potential of a new agreement for judicial cooperation.

Zaidan noted the need to update Riyadh Arab Agreement, signed in 1983, for judicial cooperation among Arab countries. This can be fulfilled via bilateral agreements.

Minister al-Sayyed, for his part, considered this visit is based on reinforcing the legal and judicial cooperation between Syria and Iraq, affirming that the aforementioned Agreement is well applied in the area of extradition and other matters as well.
