Al-Zoubi: Success of U.N. initiative in Aleppo hinged on whether backers of terrorists can force them to comply with truce

Damascus, SANA_ The success of a U.N. initiative to freeze fighting in Aleppo hinged on whether foreign states that back the terrorist groups can get them to comply with truce, Information Minister Omran al-Zoubi said.

In an interview with Reuters TV on Thursday evening, Minister al-Zoubi added that talking about freezing shelling is part of a freeze of fighting, meaning this freeze in fighting is the responsibility of all the armed parties in Aleppo,”

“The Syrian government is still studying what de Mistura said since the first moment… and when he comes to Damascus there will be clear and precise answers from the Syrian government,” he said.

Al- Zoubi stressed that the success of any effort related to the war on Syria depends on the capacity of the parties that finance the armed terrorist groups to control them, deter them and halt their actions and massacres against civilians.

He said: ” the Syrian army progress against the Islamic State in Iraq and Syria (ISIS) terrorist group far outstripped anything accomplished by the so-called alliance against terrorism,”

“What the Syrian army is accomplishing on a daily basis is many, many times more important than everything that the so-called alliance against terrorism is doing,” al-Zoubi added.

“The Syrian army is also using its warplanes against ISIS, using its weapons, its military plans against ISIS and has more experience in the field on the ground in fighting ISIS and al-Nusra Front.” The Minister concluded.

The main points of de Mistura’s initiative, which was first put forward late October, were presented to President Bashar al-Assad on the former’s latest visit to Syria last November.

The President then said the initiative was worthy of study and that work on it was needed to pursue its goals of re-establishing security in Aleppo.
