PM promises continued security efforts in Deir Ezzor, lauds popular resistance against ISIS

Damascus, SANA – Prime Minister Wael al-Halaqi hailed the growing popular resistance to the Islamic State of Iraq and Syria (ISIS) terrorist organization in Deir Ezzor province.

Locals in the eastern province have risen up against ISIS in various areas recently, protesting the extremist draconian rule of the organization, which has been “punishing” people for “apostasy” by inflicting acts of killing, abduction, rape, decapitation and crucifixion.

There has been a surge in acts of defense and even attacks on the locals’ part in an attempt to curb ISIS’s brutality in a number of villages and towns, with the organization suffering losses in many cases.

The hostile practices of ISIS terrorists were reviewed in detail by members of the People’s Assembly representing Deir Ezzor during a meeting with the Premier on Thursday.

The MPs also referred to the acts of pillage, armed robbery of food supplies provided to the province and vandalism against oil pipelines and electricity and communication networks.

The Premier, however, assured that Deir Ezzor province will soon be within the Syrian army’s broadening reach and an extension of the remarkable gains and victories it is now making in the southern region and elsewhere.

After the great military advances that were made in various areas over the past years, the army seems to be adding another important victory in the past few days to its record against terrorists, gaining control over many areas in a large-scale operation that covers areas along the axis of Damascus Countryside, Quneitra and Daraa.

Al-Halaqi also affirmed that the military efforts to restore security to Syria will continue to go parallel to the efforts seeking the achieving of more local reconciliations all around the country.
