Beijing, SANA- Spokesperson of China’s Foreign Ministry, Zhao Lijian, reiterated his country’s strong rejection of exploiting the human rights issues for putting pressure on other states and practicing the selectivity and double standards, adding that the decision of suspending the membership of Russia at the United Nations Human Rights Council (UNHRC) has “political motives”.
“We have to deal with those serious issues carefully, based on facts, calmly, objectively and rationally”, Zhao said in a press conference on Friday, adding that forming the related resolutions were not open or transparent, and “not all member states were consulted”.
The Chinese diplomat warned against using this approach to deal with HRC membership as it has a dire consequence on the member states and leads to exaggerating the division among them and intensifies the contradictions among the parties creating a dangerous precedent that may has a great impact on the administration of the United Nations.
Zhao stressed that China calls on all parties to exert joint efforts for creating opportunities for peace and opening horizons for negotiations”, saying that his country has always been calling for enhancing and preserving the human rights through constructive dialogue and cooperation on the basis of equality and mutual respect.
United Nations General Assembly voted for suspending the membership of Russia at the UNHRC as out of 193 voting members, 93 member states voted in favor ,24 states voted against and 58 ones abstained.
