Polyansky warns of consequences of suspending Russia’s membership at Human Rights Council

New York, SANA- Russia has warned that the suspension of the Russian Federation’s work at the UN Human Rights Council may have serious consequences for the United Nations system as a whole, stressing that its removal from the Council will deprive developing countries of protection.

“This approach by the United States and its allies may have serious consequences for the United Nations system,” Russia’s First Deputy Permanent Representative to the United Nations, Dmitry Polyansky, said on his Telegram channel today.

Polyansky noted that the upcoming vote is not about the Russian-Ukrainian conflict or alleged Russian human rights abuses.

He added “Given the increase in falsification and provocations, this is a premeditated tactical move, and it is a dangerous precedent when a group of Western countries are trying to impose their rules and preferences on others.”

“This step comes from within the international rule-based system promoted by the West and consists of non-principled colonial blackmail under the guise of a noble cause,” he added.
