3rd mobile network operator launched in Syria

Damascus, SANA- The Communications and Technology Ministry announced on Monday that the 3rd mobile network operator for the joint stock private company “Wafa Telecom” was launched to operate public cellular communications in Syria.

“We hope that launching 3rd operator will help improve the reality of cellular communications in Syria, especially after the damages of its infrastructure due to the terrorist war,” Communications and Technology Minister, Eng. Iyad al-Khatib said in a press conference to announce licensing the 3rd operator.

 Minister al-Khatib added that making the first call on the third operator’s network will be nine months after the date of granting the license, and it maight be before this date.

In turn, Director General of Communications and Postal Regulatory Authority, Eng. Manhal Junaidi, said that the 3rd operator is allowed to work on local roaming on the two existing networks during the first and second years, till the completion of its network.
