Syria’s production of honey triples with production estimated at five thousand tons

Damascus, SANA- Syria’s production of honey for the current season has tripled in comparison with the last season as it has nearly reached up to 5000 tons.

Extending the period of allowing importation of bees, their queens and various beehive products and beekeeping equipment, except honey, will help to compensate for the shortage, in addition to developing the beekeeping sector and securing and achieving a better income for the breeders, Head of Bee Department at Agriculture Ministry, Eng. Lama Hallaq told SANA.

The Agriculture Ministry has worked on activating the beekeeping sector after its decline and the decrease in the production due to the terrorist war launched on Syria, and it has taken all the required measures to achieve this goal, Hallaq added.

Earlier, Prime Minister Hussein Arnous, had agreed on the recommendation of the Economic Committee, which included approving the proposal of the Ministries of Economy and Foreign Trade, and the Agriculture and Agrarian Reform to extend the period of allowing all importers to import bees and their queens and different beehive products and all beekeeping equipment, except for honey, till June 30th, 2022.
