Islamic Unity Conference calls for unity in the face of extremism

Tehran, SANA – The 28th International Islamic Unity Conference concluded its activities on Friday in Tehran, calling in its closing statement for unity in the face of extremist and takfiri movements.

The statement stressed the need to combine efforts to aid the people affected and displaced by terrorists, particularly in Syria and Iraq.

The participants also condemned all forms of terrorism and asserted that resistance is a legitimate right for people.

The statement said that bringing the different Islamic creeds closer together is the only way to unify the Islamic nation, stressing that any sectarian or ethnic strife only serves the enemies of Islam.

The participants denounced the Israeli aggressions against the Palestinian people, reiterating the need to support the Palestinians’ rights to return, self-determination, and establishing an independent state with Jerusalem as its capital.

The statement called for spreading the logic of dialogue among Muslims and encouraging reconciliation among them to reach peaceful solutions to disputes in Syria, Bahrain, Iraq, Myanmar, and elsewhere.

Earlier, Speaker of the Iranian Shura Council Ali Larijani criticized in a speech at the conclusion of the conference the double standards employed by the west when it comes to terrorism.

Larijani said that the terrorism affecting Syria is created by the west and its pawns in the region that funded and armed terrorism, which gives the Syrian people the right to hold the countries supporting terrorism accountable.

He said that the events taking place in France are repercussions of the support provided by the west and its regional allies to terrorists in Syria.

Grand Mufti of Syria Ahmad Badreddin Hassoun participated in the conference alongside hundreds of religious figures from Iran and 65 other countries.
