Sub-national vaccination campaign targeting 300,000 children continues

Damascus, SANA- The Health Ministry continued its sub-national vaccination campaign which was launched on Sunday and which will continue until Thursday,

Health Minister Nizar Yazigi said the campaign, which is organized in cooperation with World Health Organization (WHO) and United Nations Children’s Fund (UNICEF), targets children under five with the aim of increasing vaccination coverage in 549 villages and residential gatherings in all provinces.

For her part, WHO Resident Representative in Syria Elizabeth Hoff said that the campaign targets more than 300,000 children who live in areas that are difficult to access, providing them with polio vaccines in addition to routine vaccinations.

In turn, UNICEF Resident Representative in Syria Hana Singer asserted the Fund’s commitment to support vaccination campaigns in Syria by offering vaccines, pointing out that the UNICEF provided vaccines for polio, measles, rubella, and mumps, in addition to other requirements such as cooling equipment for storing and transporting vaccines safely.
