Hama produces 47,000 tons of olives and 7,500 tons of oil

Hama, SANA – Olive production in the central province of Hama has gone up to 47,000 tons of olives, in addition to 7,500 tons of olive oil in this year’s season.

The production in the province marked a drop compared to last season when it reached 11,000 tons of oil and 56,000 tons of olive fruits.

This drop was put down to the heat waves that affected most areas in Hama last April, according to Head of the Olive Office at the Agriculture Directorate in the province, Ammar Sabbouh, speaking to SANA reporter.

Another reason behind the decrease in production, Sabbouh told the reporter, is attributed to the olive fruit flywhich badly affected the fruits in July and October.
