Bronze statue of Golan’s Princess is testament to Syrian civilization and openness

Damascus, SANA- Statue of Banyas’s Princess is one of the rich and rare antiquities that are embraced by the Classic Syrian Archeology Department in Damascus National Museum, this statue dates back to the Roman era with its features that show Syria’s civilization, deep root and openness.

Archeologists called the bust, which is a bronze piece, as “Golan’s Princess”, and according to the researcher Dr. Ali al-Qayyem, it represents Syria’s greatness and beauty, and it is one of the most beautiful bronze Syrian sculptures at all.

It was found during the last excavation process carried out by the Syrian archeological expeditions in Golan in 1965 before the Israeli occupation as it was discovered in one of the orchards of Banyas village in the north of occupied Syrian Golan, inside a sarcophagus.

The statue which dates back to the 3rd century is in a good status and it is 25 cm length, 35 cm width and 25 cm height. It depicts a face of a beautiful lady with all the sweetness and tenderness features. She is wearing a cap with her forehead decorated by a necklace and a silk shawl. The statue is surrounded by a round frame.
