Geneva/Damascus,SANA – President of the UN Association Syria George Jabbour called on the UN Secretary-General Antonio Guterres to directly and immediately intervene to save the locals in Hasaka city and its surroundings from thirst, as the Turkish occupation forces continue to cut off their water drinking.
Jabbour pointed out in a letter to Guterres that Turkey is cutting off drinking water for the residents in the city and its suburbs, stressing that this crime is exacerbating the seriousness of the humanitarian situation in the region and it is a violation of the international humanitarian laws.
In turn, the International Council for Supporting Fair Trial and Human Rights (ICSFT) condemned in the strongest terms the crime of cutting off water for about one million civilians in Hasaka city, holding the Turkish occupation responsible for the lives of those people, particularly at a time when water is considered the most important way to prevent the spread of the Coronavirus (COVID-19).
The Council affirmed in a statement that using water as a weapon against civilians is not only a violation of international laws and conventions, but it is a war crime, a mass punishment of civilians, and uses them as leverage for political purposes.
