Mikdad: Enhancing cooperation with UNICEF in all fields

Damascus, SANA- Deputy Foreign and Expatriates Minister Fayssal Mikdad affirmed importance of bolstering cooperation between the Syrian State and the United Nations Children’s Fund organization (UNICEF), especially in light of current circumstances imposed by Coronavirus (COVID-19).

Mikdad’s remarks came during a meeting with the new representative of UNICEF in Syria Bo Viktor Nylund who handed over his credentials to him on Thursday morning.

Mikdad welcomed the new representative wishing him success in his new mission, pointing out to the cooperation between the Syrian state and the UNICIF in various fields, mainly caring for childhood, health, education and water.

The Deputy Minister indicated the attention paid by the Syrian State in following up on offering the education to all children in Syria at all educational stages, with focusing on the importance of rehabilitating schools and supporting education sector in general, especially proceeding the exam process for students coming from the terrorists- controlled areas.

Mikdad pointed out to the great attention paid by Syria to children’s health, welcoming further cooperation with UNICEF in this regard.

He referred to exacerbation of the disastrous effect of the unilateral coercive measures imposed by the US and the Western states on children, educational process and basic services provided to them, which entails that UNICIF should shed light on this danger through its reports and data.

For his part, the new representative of UNICEF stressed the necessity of continuing the organization efforts carried out over last years which witnessed a fruitful cooperation at all spheres related to UNICEF.

Nylund referred that he would support measures taken by the Syrian State in containing Coronavirus epidemic and provide the necessary aid for Syria’s children, mainly in the educational and health sector.
