Moscow backs UN appeal for global truce with continuation of war against terrorism

Moscow, SANA- Russian Deputy Foreign Minister Sergey Vershinin said Friday that Moscow supports the call of UN Secretary-General Antonio Guterres to a “global truce” in the war-torn regions on condition that this does not affect the war against terrorist organizations.

“We fully support the UN Secretary-General’s call for a global truce in war-torn regions and we, as a permanent member of the Security Council, are ready to contribute to the implementation of this important initiative,” Vershinin told Sputnik.

He added that the truce should not affect the continuation of the decisive war against the terrorist organizations designated by the UN Security Council’s bodies.

The Russian Diplomat pointed out that in circumstances of the Coronavirus, the importance of the United Nations capabilities in settling crises increases.

Vershinin clarified that, in case of not reaching medicines and health care to residents of the regions of conflicts, there is a possibility that the epidemic situation could collapse and lead to a real humanitarian catastrophe.

Earlier, Guterres called for an immediate global ceasefire to help people in war-torn regions receive life-saving aid to fight the coronavirus pandemic.
