Al-Moallem to RT: Syria’s relations with Russia deeply-rooted and long-standing

Moscow, SANA-Deputy Prime Minister, Foreign and Expatriates Minister Walid al-Moallem affirmed that Syria’s relations with Russia are deeply-rooted and long-standing, adding that mutual visits between officials of the two countries come to deepen coordination and cooperation in all fields.

Al-Moallem, in an interview given to RT during his visit to Moscow heading an economic delegation, said meetings of the Syrian-Russian economic and trade committee are important which deal with different forms of cooperation between the two friendly countries.

As for a question about the so-called “Caesar Act” which imposes US new coercive measures against the Syrian people, al-Moallem affirmed that this act is part of an American policy which is practiced not only on Syria, but even on the US allies.

He added that the US pretext of Daesh terrorist organization is still remaining to justify its occupation of the Syrian oil wells.

“The Syrian army is actually the side that fought Daesh and our families in al-Jazeera region know the volume of sacrifices offered by the Syrian Army there ,” al-Moallem said.

He added that the Syrian army operations in Idleb is part of a Syrian policy and stance specified by President Bashar al-Assad to liberate every span of the Syrian territories.

Concerning a question about the pretexts of the Israeli enemy for launching aggression against Syria, al-Moallem said that these pretexts are rejected, adding “As Turkey does in the file of the Kurds and the US in Daesh… All are illusive pretexts to market their aggression on Syria.”

As for the possibility of holding a meeting with a Turkish delegation in Moscow, al-Moallem said that in light of the existence of a Turkish occupation of Syrian territories, “We should always think about the feasibility of this meeting… does it lead to liberating the lands from the Turkish occupation or it is just a mere meeting.”
