Moscow, SANA- Russian Foreign Minister Sergey Lavrov affirmed that the formation of the constitutional committee is an important step in the framework of the political process to solve the crisis in Syria.

Lavrov, in a speech to Arab media outlets, broadcast on Thursday ,said that the Syrian people are the only ones who determine the future and the constitution of their country , based on UNSC resolution no.2254

He added that launching the work of the constitutional committee will give a momentum to the political process in Syria , noting that the conditions were set up to accelerate the process after conducting serious strikes against terrorist organizations in the country.

In another context, Lavrov said that Russia ‘s participation in the war on terrorism in Syria came at the request of the Syrian government, adding that the only reason for any foreign presence on Syrian territories could be based on a request by the legitimate authority.

He indicated that the illegitimate US presence in Syria aims at preventing the restoration of safety and stability over the country in a direct violation of UNSC no. 2254.
