Moscow, SANA- Russian Foreign Minister Sergey Lavrov said that US and some Western countries attempt to prolong crisis in Syria and protect Jabhat al-Nusra terrorist organization for geopolitical goals.

Lavrov ‘s remarks came during a press conference with Ivory Coast Foreign Minister Marcel Amon-Tanoh in Moscow on Wednesday.

Lavrov said that Washington wants to protect Jabhat al-Nusra terrorist organization, seeks to omit its name from the list of the terrorist organizations, and make it a side in the talks on the crisis in Syria in order to serve the West’s geopolitical goals.

Lavrov called on the Western countries and the US to stop fabricating baseless pretexts to hinder the return of the Syrians who were displaced due to terrorism to their homeland, and to join efforts to facilitate their return, referring to the return of thousands of displaced people to the homeland.
