Indian company resumes project of expanding Tishreen Thermal Plant after years of hiatus

Damascus Countryside, SANA- A delegation of Indian Bharat Company on Monday visited Tishreen Thermal Power Plant to the southeast of Damascus with the aim of resuming work on expanding the plant which stopped over the past years due to the terrorist war waged against Syria.

Electricity Minister Mohammad Zuhair Kharboutli said in a statement to SANA that resuming  the work on carrying out this vital project comes after restoring security and stability to most areas across the country thanks to the heroism and sacrifices of the Syrian Arab Army.

Minister Kharboutli added that Indian experts will return to Syria to continue the work at the plant, noting that the project will further improve the efficiency of the electrical system.

He indicated that the project will be implemented over a period of 29 months for the first group and 34 months for the second group with a value estimated at 305 million Euros.

In the year 2009, Electricity Ministry signed a contract with Bharat Company to expand Tishreen Thermal Power Plant with a capacity of 400 MW through two steam groups that work on fuel and gas, the capacity of each of them is 200 MW.

Bharat Company started to implement the project by the end of October 2010, but it stopped it due to the terrorist war waged against Syria.

Executive Director of Bharat Company, Akilco Mar said that the visit of the Indian delegation to Syria aims at coordinating with the Syrian Government to start implementation of the project in mid-June.

For his part, Finance Director of Bharat Company Subodh Gupta shed light on the good relations binding India and Syria which have never stopped over the past years, indicating that Bharat Company has been waiting for the suitable opportunity to implement the signed projects.
