President al-Assad names new governors for several provinces

Damascus, SANA – President Bashar al-Assad issued on Wednesday a decree appointing new governors for the provinces of Aleppo, Idleb, Lattakia, Quneitra and Tartous.

The new governors are, respectively, Mohammad Marwan al-Olabi, Kheir Eddin al-Sayyed, Ibrahim Khudr al-Salem, Ahmad al-Sheikh Abdul-Qader and Safwan Abo Saada.

Mohammad Marwan al-Olabi was born in Aleppo in 1948. He has a PhD in agricultural sciences and is a professor at Aleppo University. He was elected as a member of the People’s Assembly in 2011. He is married with a son and daughter.

Kheir Eddin al-Sayyed was born in Tartous in 1956. He has a degree in medicine from Damascus University and specialized in otolaryngology at Paris University. He worked as director of the Military Hospital in Tartous, director of the blood bank in Tartous, director of al-Bassel Hospital, and headed Tartous Heath Directorate. He is married with two daughters.

Ibrahim Khudr al-Salem was born in Homs in 1960. He has a law degree from Damascus University, and volunteered in the police force in 1984. He was appointed head of the Criminal Security Departments of Hasaka and Idleb, head of the Anti-Narcotics Department, and Aleppo Police Commander. He is married with two sons and two daughters.

Ahmad al-Sheikh Abdul-Qader was born in Damascus Countryside in 1955. He has a law degree from Damascus University, and volunteered in the police force in 1983. He was appointed as district director in four provinces and in 2000 he was appointed Director of the Office of Cabinet Affairs, then Cabinet Secretary, and finally Aleppo Governor in 2013. He is married with three sons and a daughter.

Safwan Abo Saada was born in Sweida in 1972. He has a law degree from Damascus University. He was appointed head of Sweida City Council and Idleb Governor. He is married with two sons and two daughters.
